A shared self-image is the most efficient way to align behavior at scale without coercion. When people recognize themselves in a collective narrative, growth becomes a byproduct rather than a goal.
Growth is usually framed as a function of distribution, incentives, or clever tactics. These tools matter, but they are secondary. The primary driver is how people see themselves in relation to what they use, build, or join. When a system offers a clear answer to the question “who are we becoming by participating in this,” it removes friction from adoption and retention. Individuals no longer need constant persuasion. Action becomes consistent because it reinforces identity, not because it is rewarded or enforced.
